Signs it is time
When a split needs looking at
Flat out and still warm
The unit roars all afternoon and the room never gets there. Sometimes it is a blocked filter or low gas; sometimes the unit is worn out or was too small from the start. We tell you which.
Water dripping indoors
Usually a blocked drain, or one that does not run downhill all the way. That is a repair, and we fix it.
It needs gas again
Then it has a leak. Another top-up is not a repair. Finding and fixing the leak is.
A repair every summer
On an older unit, a point comes where the next repair is not worth paying for. We tell you when it does.
How we install a split system
We size each room on its own from your home's measurements, so a living area open to the kitchen gets more than a bedroom of the same size. We seal the pipework where it passes through your wall, and the water the unit pulls out of the air gets a proper path to drain.
Before any refrigerant goes into the new lines, we pressure test them and vacuum them out, so no air or moisture is left inside. Once the system is running, we show you the remote and the modes you will actually use, and we leave your home as clean as we found it.
Our 7 year workmanship warranty
On a split or multi-head we supply and install, the warranty covers our work: every place we go through your walls, the mounting of the indoor and outdoor units, the condensate drainage and the commissioning. You get it in writing once the job is paid.
The one condition is a service at least once every 12 months by a licensed air conditioning technician. The equipment carries its maker's warranty, and our electrical work carries 12 months. The warranty does not cover storm, flood, fire, lightning or surge damage, other people's work on the system, or a filter that was never cleaned; the full list is in our terms.
Separate splits or a multi-head
Separate splits keep rooms independent: if one fails, the others keep going. A multi-head needs one outdoor unit instead of several, which suits a house short on wall space outside. Every room on a multi-head runs from that one outdoor unit, so if it stops, those rooms stop with it. We go through both layouts with you and quote the one that suits your house.
Brands and options
Your quote usually sets out three options at three prices, and whichever you choose, we install it the same way. Panasonic leads our range. For split systems we also install Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Fujitsu and Hisense, and on a multi-head, Samsung too. On separate splits, the quote can also show what one size up costs.
Where the units go
We work out with you where each unit goes, so the indoor unit looks right in the room and the outdoor unit has clear air around it. A standard pipe run between them is in the price, and so is the cover over it; only a Colorbond cover is extra. A longer run costs more, and past the length the factory charge covers, the maker calls for extra refrigerant too. If the spot you want will cost more, we say so.
One company for the electrical and the air conditioning
The electrical work goes on the same quote: the circuit each unit runs on, and a lockable isolating switch beside every outdoor unit. If your switchboard needs work first, we tell you and price it before we go any further.
What affects the price
Every price is the full installed price, GST included, worked out from your home's measurements, and it holds for the job as described until the date on your quote. If we have not been through your home yet, a free site visit confirms it before anything is ordered. What sets it:
- How many rooms, and their sizes
- Separate splits or one multi-head
- The brand and model
- The pipe run between the units
- Access, and two storey homes
- Switchboard work, if needed
- Moving or removing an old unit

FAQ
Questions people ask
Should I get splits or ducted?
Splits suit one room or a few, and for one or two rooms they cost less. Ducted suits the whole house on one system, with outlets in the ceiling instead of units on the walls. We install both, so we look at how you use the house and quote the one that suits it.
Does a split system need its own circuit?
Not always. Where the maker's installation manual calls for one, it gets one, because the Wiring Rules require equipment to be installed to the maker's instructions. Otherwise a smaller unit can connect into a suitable existing circuit, and your quote says which you are getting. When we add an air conditioner to a home, its circuit is protected by a safety switch at the board.
Can you move or remove an old split?
Yes. We recover the refrigerant, move the unit within the same address and commission it again, and if it is too old to be worth moving, we say so first. If it is coming out for good, we take it away with the refrigerant recovered.
